Biography:


Adly Mansour was born in Cairo, Egypt, in 1945. He is the current President of Egypt. Adly Mansour studied at Cairo University where he obtained a degree in law, he also obtained a degree in economics. Adly Mansour was named to the Supreme Constitutional Court in 1992.

 

Mansour was instrumental in developing the supervision law for the 2012 presidential elections that brought Mohamed Morsi to power in 2012. Adly Mansour was later named by President Morsi as the new President of the Supreme Constitutional Court. Following President Morsi's removal from power Mansour was named as interim President until new elections can be held.

Mohamed Morsi was born in Sharqia, Egypt, in 1951. Mohamed Morsi studied at Cairo University where he obtained a bachelor and master's degree in engineering, he obtained a PhD from the University of Southern California. He worked at the Zagazig University from 1985 to 2010 before joining politics in 2010.

 

Mohamed Morsi participated in the foundation of the Freedom and Justice Party before the 2011 revolution. The party has close ties to the Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt. He became the first democratically elected President of Egypt on June 30th 2012. In November 2012 he granted himself new powers which would prevent judicial review of any of his actions. At this point opposition to his rule started to mount, he would go back on this decision following major protests. However opposition continued to build because of the perception that Morsi was more interested in promoting his islamist agenda than setting the democratic structures in Egypt. Following massive street protests that started on June 30th 2013, the Egyptian Army gave Morsi an ultimatum to come to an agreement with the opposition parties in order to move forward, when the deadline was not met the Egyptian Army removed Morsi from office and replaced by Adly Mansour the head of the Supreme Constitutional Court of Egypt..

Hesham Qandil was born in Beni Suef, Egypt, in 1962. Hesham Qandil studied at Cairo University where he obtained a bachelor's degree in engineering, he obtained a master's degree in irrigation and drainage engineering from Utah State University and finally he obtained a PhD in biological and agricultural engineering from North Carolina State University. Hesham Qandil has worked in the water resources management and engineering for most of his life, notably the Water Resources Department in Egypt and was also the Chief of Water Resources African Development Band. These are all important posts considering the difficult geography in Egypt and neighbouring countries where water must be carefully managed as a matter of survival. In August 2012 he was selected to become the new Prime Minister of Egypt, this was to be a professional government made up of mostly technocrats rather than politicians. He was forced to resign on July 3rd along with President Mohamed Morsi following massive street protests.

Mohamed Hussein Tantawi was the Interim Leader of Egypt, he was appointed when Hosni Mubarak resigned as the President of Egypt, following the uprisings that happened in the country from January to February 2011. He is a career Military Officer.


Mohamed Hussein Tantawi joined the Egyptian Military in 1956, he served in the Sinai War of 1956, the Six-Day War of 1967, the October War of 1973 and the First Gulf War from 1990-91. In 1991 he became the Minister of Defense of Egypt. Mohamed Hussein Tantawi will remain the current Head of State of Egypt, until elections can held, the circumstances surrounding these elections will determine whether or not the revolution was a success.

Following massive protests in 2011 was removed from power and the government was put under the care of the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces until elections could be held.
