Alexander Stubb was born in Helsinki, Finland, in 1968. Alexander Stubb is the current Prime Minister of Finland. He studied at Furman University in the United States, the College of Europe in Belgium and also at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

Alexander Stubb began his professional career working for the government of Finland where he worked as a researcher in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, eventually working for Finland's delegation to the European Union.

He was elected to the European Parliament in 2004, he served until 2008 when he became the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland. In 2011 he became the Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade. Alexander Stubb became the Prime Minister of Finland following the resignation of Jyrki Katainen in 2014.

In 2007 he became the Finance Minister of Finland and the Deputy Prime Minister In the April 2011 parliamentary elections his party, the National Coalition Party won the largest amount of seats. Jyrki Katainen was finally able to form a coalition government in June 2011 and subsequently became the new Prime Minister of Finland. Jyrki Katainen resigned as the Prime Minister of Finland in 2014.

Before joining politics he was a journalist. He was first elected to Finland's parliament in 1991. In 2003 he was named prime minister. Matti Vanhanen ran in the 2006 presidential elections but was defeated by the incumbent Tarja Halonen. He formed a second government in 2007.
