Janos Vitez was an important intellectual in medieval Hungary, he is later remembered as being the Father of Humanism in Hungary. He was prominent in several fields including Latin, mathematics, astrology and astronomy.

Janos Vitez participated in the education of Matthias Corvinus the future king. He was also responsible for the development of cultural and scientific institutions in Hungary. However, at the end of his life he organized a rebellion against the king, he died soon after from an illness.
